We saw many little stone carvings like this in insets in the walls of the church

The south transept. The wooden box on the left protects a nearly faded away fresco of the crucifixion.

They were probably all important at one time; no more.

Seen in regular light, this was almost invisible. I poked and proded my camera to make it show up better.
