Not only the temples were reconstructed. The hills into which they were built were also made to look like the original cliff sides. Notice that the face/top of one of the four statues of Ramesses II has fallen. Even this detail was taken into consideration for the reconstruction.

Each of the statues is more than 60 feet high. From this angle, people provide a sense of scale.

Even the little statues are larger than people. Our guide only spoke to us for a few minutes and then let us wander off on our own. I would have preferred more background.
