This sign says that what we are going to see is how it was laid out in the second centruy A.D.
THere was less reconstruction here than at some other sites, but it has something special about it. Perhaps it was the fact that there were so few other visitors that I could walk around anywhere I wanted.

Near the amphitheatre which could hold about 3,500 people.
After being evaluated at the front gate (patients they didn't think they could cure were sent elsewhere), new arrivals were lead through this passageway. It was filled with smoke and priests spoke to the patients through the holes in the top.

Even today the water flowing along the side has a soothing sound.
I wondered why these two walls were built with about a yard of space between them. I suppose that over several hundred years of development, this is what happens.

The entrance to the Acropolis site. I'm sure the sign was telling us something important. The Acropolis (high city) is about 900 feet up and commands the surrounding territory. This was a very important site for both the Greeks and the Romans for a long time. Only the richest/most important lived up here. Everyone else lived down below.

This amphitheatre could hold about 10,000 people. It is the most steeply sloped of the known Greek theatres.
