This temple is more than 1500 years old but on the other side of the hills (about 2 miles away) is modern technology.

We visited the Pololu Valley overlook on the far north part of the island.

On the way back from the Pololu Valley, I took this picture of a statue of King Kamehameha the first. He was the first king of all the islands and his birthplace was neer the Mookini heiau.

Sulphur vents at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

The smell wasn't as strong as we remembered, but there seemed to be more vents.

We don't know if this has a special meaning but we saw it on one edge of the sulphur vent field.

Looking down from the Chain of Craters road toward the ocean (southeast part of the island). The lava flows leave their mark, don't they? (That is what the black material is.)

Not so long ago molten lava poured into the sea and built these cliffs which are now being battered by the sea.

We went "off-road" (on foot) to see petroglyphs left over a long time. There is no way to accurately interpret what these glyphs may have meant.

Have I mentioned that the wind blows all the time?

Seems like a variation on the turtle/human form we have seen before.
