On Friday, we visited the Pu Ukohola Heiau site. You can see the heiau, which is off-limits to non-Hawaiians, in the background.

This Heiau, which was built in 1791, was important to King Kamehameha in his attempt to win rule over the 7 main islands.

We could not climb into the heiau, but this will give you an idea of its size. It took one year to build, which seems pretty remarkable. There is another, much older, heiau just behind where I am standing.
