When we got to Madrid (March 10) we were surprised to find the normally busy Plaza de Santa Ana relatively empty. We were starting to get the idea that pandemic was spreading very quickly in Spain.

There were signs like this everywhere we walked in Madrid. Even the restaurants were closing. This sign was near the royal palace and says that the palace will be completely closed until there is a new notice.

On Saturday, the 14th, only a few small food stores were open and the streets were deserted. We holed up in our apartment waiting for a flight home on Monday, about a week early. The entrance to our apartment is just past the restaurant on the left.
