You might think this is the main entrance to the Jerónimos Monastery, but it is no longer used.

We rode the funicular up the steep hill.

We tried a café closer to home that had the pasteis, but they weren't the same.

The Alfama district, where we stayed, dates back to the Moorish times. We successfully navigated the narrow winding streets to ge to the Fado Museum.

Fado is an important part of Portugal's culture. The museum would not allow pictures, which is too bad, since it was interesting.

We returned to the Jerónimos Monastery (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos) in Belém on a day when it was open to the public.

It is decorated in the Manueline style, which dates to the early 16th century and derives from the Gothic style.
