On our way from the Kohala Coast to our Airbnb in Volcano village, we stopped at the Imiloa Astronomy Center and saw exhibits and a planaterium show.

One of the [many] highlights of our trip was a guided tour of some of the land devestated by lava flows in 2018. All of the trees in the background were damaged by the lava/heat. (Noah)

In some places the land was still steaming. A year before, this was a small subdivision. Now it is new land.

People are trying to clean up along the edges of the damage.

Notice the air pockets in this piece of lava that probably flew through the air as it cooled.

We were upwind, so we didn't get the full effect of the steam.

This looks like a deep canyon, but it is only about 50 feet deep.

Tree molds are created when lava engulfs a tree, burning away the inside, leaving a mold that shows the outside of the tree.

We saw several tree molds.

If you put your arm into the mold, you can feel the heat of the ground below. You won't want to leave your arm there for long.

There were many lava tubes just under the surface. Some of them had broken so we could see inside.
