This seems to show one curved wall enclosing another. We hadn't seen anything like this before and we wonder what its purpose was.

When we left Gran Quivira, we took back roads through Lincoln County through Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs and spent the night at the Inn of the Mountain Gods on the Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation. This is a picture of the lake on which the resort sits.
From inside the large lobby we could see the lake and Sierra Blanca, a 12,000 foot peak in the background.

On Friday morning we drove from the hotel (over Highways 70 and 244) through Cloudcroft, NM on our way to Alamogordo. On the way out of Cloudcroft on Highway 82, we stopped at a viewpoint.
From that viewpoint we could look down on Alamogordo, about 20 miles away, and beyond that we could see the White Sands National Monument, where we were headed.

Right across from us was what is called the Fresnal Shelter, which was used from around 6,000 B.C. until about 500 B.C.
I could not spot the protected shelter. Maybe you will have more luck.
Looking back up highway 82 we saw the only highway tunnel in New Mexico.
