I thought the name "White Sands" might be an exaggeration. But these gypsum particles are really white. We aren't sure what left these tracks behind.
The sand is as white as the clouds.
At least in this part of the monument things grow.
I liked the ripples in the sand. Some of the dunes move as much as 30 feet per year.

Further on in the Monument we discovered lots of kids who were sledding down the sand hills. You have to admit that this looks a lot like snow.

From White Sands we went to Truth or Consequences (TorC) where we spent a couple of nights on a field trip with a group from the School for Advanced Research. On Friday night Karl and Toni Laumbach ( Human Systems Research, Inc.) gave us a 2-hour introduction to the Cañada Alamosa sites we would visit.
Moticello is an example of a small New Mexico town with a historic plaza.
Only about 100 people live here.
This is the "Maytag" house that is used by the Earthwatch volunteers who help with the Cañada Alamosa Project. The project is in its 11th year. The house is well funished and comfortable for Karl and the 6 to 8 volunteers he has at a time.
