Dingle Peninsula

Dingle Peninsula
As we drove from Killarney to Dingle, we stopped at beach near Inch.
For some reason, neither of us expected to see any wide sandy beaches.
Looking west from Inch.
Looking west down the peninsula.
Situated for a nice view of Dingle Bay
We had a very nice lunch here in what looks like a a stone barn.
Before lunch we walked down to the Dubeg Fort.
Over time, part of the fort has fallen into the bay. You can see that parts of teh cliffs have fallen in this picture.
This fort semed smaller and somehow less sophisticated than the fort we saw the day before.
The rings of defensive mounds tell me they had something to worry about.
The walls were very thick.
From the inside you could peer over the wall. With the back of the fort right up against the cliffs, there is a wide, open area in the front.
I had to duck to get through. I wonder if they had a way to close the entrance.
It would have been difficult--but not impossible, I suppose--to sneak in from the back
