A return trip to Spain that begins with a stop in Córdoba and then on to the 27th Festival de Jerez
Patricia and I are happy to return to Spain after a long absence caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We never thought it would be 3 years before it would feel safe to travel to Spain again.
We were in Madrid when Spain’s lockdown began in March, 2020 and we feel fortunate we were able to get back to the U.S. with only a little trouble. [You can read about the 2020 trip to Spain here.] We did feel comfortable taking Abby to England last April, but that was pretty straightforward compared to the logistics for an extended trip to Spain.
This year, we will start with a few days in Córdoba before spending 11 days at the 27th annual flamenco festival in Jerez. We have tickets for 19 festival performances at this point, but we may end up with more. From Jerez, we will go to Seville for a few days and will spend the last 11 days in Madrid. Of course, we will see more flamenco in Córdoba, Sevilla, and Madrid. We are, once again, going to try to make a day trip to Segovia from Madrid. The last time we tried, a snowstorm in the area made us cancel.
This year’s festival will be even more exciting than usual because the National Institute of Flamenco’s repertory company, Yjastros, has been invited to perform at the festival. It is a huge honor for a non-Spanish group to be invited to the festival. A number of people from the U.S. in addition to the Yjastros cast will be going to Jerez to celebrate. We have many activities planned. I am the vice-chair of the board of directors for NIF.
We have so much planned that I probably will not write a daily post –those 2:00 AM deadlines are getting more difficult to meet. I’ll write and post pictures as I can, though.
You can see our music schedule for the trip, look at a calendar, check out the pictures and posts, all under this heading.
