We have not been to Ireland since 2018. On that trip we drove all over. In this case, “all over” means the country of Ireland and does not include the counties in Northern Ireland, which is part of the UK. This time our trip will be a little more sedate. We will start out in Dublin, a city we like a great deal. We have only spent a few days there in the past so there are still many things for us to see for the first time as well as places, like the National Museum, to visit again.

We will take the train to Galway, a place we last visited in 2010 or so. We were only there for a couple of days and we look forward to returning. Galway is a very walkable city, as is Dublin.

We have three day trips scheduled while we are in Ireland. One of them is a guided tour of the Newgrange World Heritage site. We visited on our own in 2018 and hope to learn even more this time.

We will fly to Leeds-Bradford airport in England on our way to York. We took a day trip to York in 1985 or 1986 and I visited in 1996. Each of those visits was only for a few hours so this time we are taking 3 full days to explore. Of course, we will visit the famous York Minster cathedral, but a highlight of this trip will be a visit to the Yorkshire Museum. That museum has a display of an Iron Age hoard discovered in the area. We read about this in March, while we were planning our trip, and that clinched our decision to include York on our itinerary. [An important think to know about York is that it is famous for chocolate. Who knew?! I will explore.]

We will spend more than a week in London. We were there with Abby three years ago. We are going to stay in a hotel only a couple of blocks from the British Museum and we plan to spend most of a day at the museum. We also have a return trip to Canterbury planned.

On this trip we have plenty of places we want to visit and things we want to do but we have left plenty of time for simply exploring.

You can see our itinerary for the trip, look at a calendar, check out the pictures and posts, all under this heading.
