The National Institute of Flamenco, headquartered in Albuquerque, has held a flamenco festival for 39 years. We have attended about 15 of them since we moved to New Mexico. We spend a week in Albuquerque attending as many as 20 performances and late-night tablaos. This is the largest flamenco festival outside of Spain and most of the performers are premier artists from Spain. It is always a pleasure for us to see outstanding flamenco and visit with friends.
It is forbidden to take pictures or videos during the performances, which is understandable even though I would very much like to capture the artistry of performers. I have always tried to capture some images at the end of the shows and this year I tried to be conscientious about adding names to the faces. The pictures below are organized in the order of the performances, from June 19 to June 27.
